A portrait of my brother-in-law, in the house that he and my sister have renovated, surrounded by the books that they love. Tom is a great talker and storyteller. The drawn elements make a transition between the portrait space and the patterned ground and border. The slight surface texture is due to a collage layer of sewing pattern which acted as a ground for the painting.
